This is the Coffee Break library of useful tools, methods and techniques for use in leadership and organisational development. With a particular focus on green tech and sustainability, Great Wall Seminars are short ‘episodes’ of strategic issues and concepts from an executive coaching and business mentoring point of view.
A selection of useful tips and tool for working with senior management and organisational change, the content is designed to bring you outside the walls that you are used to in your practice.
Much of the content is continued at a deeper level in the Business Development Challenge and Inner Circle Lab (IC Lab) - which we are co-creating to become a powerful online repository of papers, book reviews, links, videos, short courses and Q&A. Inner Circle members are also entitled to bi-weekly "office hours."
The Great Wall of China as a symbol with different meanings. We need safe places for our families and communities. We need walls to safeguard our assets and keep competitors out. But removing a wall often does not change anything because the landscape around it remains the same. Mergers and acquisitions have this problem.
Sometimes we know there is a cultural wall in front of us, hidden by fog and forcing us to slow down: “If you pretend it isn’t there, you will run into it.”
Our aim is to respect the walls that protect us and tear those down that separate us when we should instead unite – to make the world a better place, to understand each other across cultures.
The title alludes to preserving the useful functions of a wall in competition, but also to address the methods we need to use to overcome dysfunctional internal and cultural walls to effect meaningful change and create more effective organisations.
